Why Is Political Separation (Secession, Devolution) So Popular In Canada?

By Matthew Clark

In Canada according to legacy media support among residents of the Canadian province of Alberta for Alberta nationhood, that is Albertans severing their political union with Canada to form their own nation, is running at 20%. Given the jurisdictions population which is greater than 5 million, this means at least 1 million citizens of Alberta support the action of Albertan separation.

In the Canadian province of Quebec support for separation stands at approxiametely 33%, claims the nationalist political party known as the Parti Quebecois. According to the last Canadian census taken in Quebec the province has a population of 8.2 million individuals. This implies that almost 2.5 million denizens of Quebec want to see their jurisdiction leave Canada, to become an independent nation. Keeping in mind there is a signifigant separatist block in the province of Saskatchewan, along with much smaller sectors of voters in the provinces of Manitoba, British Columbia, and Newfoundland, who desire political separation from Canada, followed by nationhood for their province, and it is obvious there is widespread discontent in the Great White North with the state of the country. Why is this?

There are many reasons for dissatisfaction with current affairs in the Northern Kingdom. Economic challenges are always a good place to start when measuring citizen displeasure with their government. In the case of Canadian citizens their is a lot to be discontent about regarding the nations economy. According to the OECD (Organization of Economic Co-Operation and Development) Canada ranks last amomng economically developed nations in every major economic category, and will keep that dubious status for some time to come. Canadians now earn only 60% of what their American counterparts make. In 2015 the two countries were almost at par. A really concerning development is that by 2030 Canadians will make less per capita then workers in Mexico! This bodes ill for trade issues within the North American continent as the Americans and Mexicans will almost certainly give priority to each other before sitting down to throw scraps at Canadian representatives.

In the health sector Canadians are suffering under a flawed system indeed. Ontario, Canada's most populous province, has the best health response time in the country, yet in that jurisdiction the interval between a patient being diagnosed with an ailment which requires surgery, and the patient receiving that surgery, is 1 year. Nevertheless there is one notable success for the Canadian health sector. Medically Assisted Suicide. Last year 16,500 people in Canada were killed by their doctors. Since 2016 over 76,000 patients north of the United States border met the grim reaper thanks to their doctor's care. If present trends continue sometime over the next 5 years health practinioners in Canada will have put to death more Canadians since 2016 than Canadian military personnel killed by the Germans in both World Wars!

Education in the Great White North is performing above the health sector, yet it too is lacking. Again according to the OECD 20% of adults in Canada have insufficient literacy and reading skills. Any Canadian who has been served by a cashier in a grocery store knows this statistic is valid.

Another nonsensical development in the Northern Kingdom is the plan being executed by the Canadian federal government to enlarge the nation's armed forces from it's present enemiac condition of under 100,000 armed personnel, to over 400,000 members. On paper this number appears impressive. Reality is another matter. Three hundred thousand of those recruits will be civil servants who will receive one day of training annually. On that special day the volunteers will not be issued uniforms, or firearms. How they will benefit from any meaningful training under those conditions beggars the imagination. No doubt the Russians are feeling intimidated.

As mentioned at the beginning of this post political separation (secessionism in the States, Devolution in Britain) is increasing throughout the Canadian jurisdiction. What is the Canadian federal governments strategy to fight this threat? Is it grand economic vision, constitutional reform, policies to increase government efficiency? Hardly. The federal governments method to keep the population in line is to use First Nations (better known as North American Indians) treaty rights to prevent a vote on separation. In other words to have 10% of the countries population hold the rest of the nations citizenry in political bondage because their ancestors were on the land before other peoples ancestors. This type of racist strategy will fail, at which point both the nation and the First Nation (North American Indian) system of government will face an existential threat!

These are just a few of the problems and challenges facing Canadians. Given the dysfunction of the nation's institutions, Canadians should be asking themselves if it is not time to sever the nations political structure and form new national entities that can better serve the citizens of the jurisdiction they reside in. To not address this situation will be to perform an injustice on the fate of their children, and grandchildren!
